The Kowa BD series is perhaps the best value in quality binoculars. The Kowa BD42 is a full sized 8x 42 mm binocular that excels in low light conditions. Kowa binoculars are very well made and the engineering and alignment on each pair is great giving you a clear and comfortable view all day. While a small step more expensive than the Chinese or Korean made binoculars these are a pair of binoculars that you invest in once and will provide great views for the rest of your lifetime.
While Kowa has long been known among birders for producing some of the worlds best spotting scopes they are still under the radar with regards to their binocular line. This might be a good thing as perhaps they are still trying to prove themselves. Most binoculars in this price range are now being made in China or Korea and are many are out-sourced to other companies. Kowa however, produces all their binoculars and scopes at their own factories in Japan. This ensures far greater quality control and the workers have a greater quality of life. While many of these other binoculars are often very bright either the quality control, engineering, or assembly isn't that great and none that I have seen match the comfort and satisfaction over the long haul as the Japanese made binoculars. Another bonus, for people who care about these things, is that Kowa is privately owned, so no wall street and no race for profits by sacrificing care.
