Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America

Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America

The Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America by Eric R. Eaton and Kenn Kaufman is the most complete field guide to insects of North America. Unfortunately It doesn't cover Spiders which are not technically insects. Anyone looking for portability and essential coverage of this vast field will be very happy with this book. The Kaufman series of field guides are quickly gaining a reputation for great illustrations (computer enhanced photographs) and ease of use in the field. This Book is compact and packed with over 2,300 photographs that make identification easy. The writing is very clear and to the point but does not feature detailed descriptions of each species. Since the writing is about the different groups of insects with the choicest details included it is enjoyable to just to pick up and read. It features a substantial section on butterflies and moths, but this is not thorough, since these insects are covered in an excellent Kaufman field guide to Butterflies. This guide features an number of easy to use organizational tricks familiar to other Kaufman field guides such as the illustrated table of contents which quickly allow you to find the group of insects your interested in with color tabs throughout the book. It also features a short illustrated index using the same color tabs which make flipping through the book efficient.
