Maya Traditions – Guatemala Wholesale
Maya Traditions works with more than 100 Maya women in five established groups in rural Guatemala. Predominantly working with women who do backstrap weaving, an ancient traditional art in Guatemala which women can do at home while caring for their families.
In addition, they work with a group of women crochet artisans, foot-loom weavers, and small family businesses to establish a Guatemala wholesale market for artisans.
Here at the Northwest Nature Shop, we do our best to provide fair trade and local goods that support ethical business practices and local artisans. Part of this effort involves reaching out to fair trade organizations and selling the wares of artisans in the developing world. This fair trade coin pouch is an example of this effort, and we offer two different colors here at the store: turquoise and deep blue. Each fair trade pouch is woven using a backstrap loom, and is created by a group of women in a rural village in Guatemala.
